The Lydian Singers Committee Team

The Musical Director

Jeremy Hilton Morrish ARCM joined the Lydian singers as their Musical Director in 2022. He has been involved with music all his life, starting at school where he played trumpet, trombone, euphonium, piano and violin, followed by a career with the mounted band of HM Life Guards.

While at the Army’s Military School of Music, he gained the ARCM performers’ diploma on euphonium – one of the first to achieve this distinction. He toured the world as a State Trumpeter with the Life Guards, performed at many Buckingham Palace investitures and sang for the Royal Family at a State Diplomatic Ball. Jeremy also arranged music, performed by the massed bands of the Household Cavalry, for Her Majesty’s Birthday Parade, Trooping the Colour in 1992.

The Chair

Penny joined the Lydian in 1996 –when her children were small as a way of getting some “me time”.  She has performed several committee roles over the years but is now chairman. She is also the choir’s concert compere. Apart from singing she likes a good gin and tonic, gardening and the theatre.

The Secretary

Jackie joined the Lydian around 3 years ago and is thoroughly enjoying it!  She has been involved in various musical groups from a very young age through her schools, college, university and childhood church where she obtained her Bishop's Chorister award.  Jackie has played the flute, piccolo and alto flute for over 35 years and has relatively recently challenged herself to learn to play the oboe which she now plays in the Alton Concert Band.

After a spate of ill health Jackie was missing having music in her life and sought out a local choir and she found the Lydian Singers! The range of music is a 'perfect blend' and the friendliness of all the members has been 'overwhelming'.  Jackie has been the choir secretary for just over a year and is thoroughly enjoying the role.

The Accompanist

Linda began playing the piano at a very early age and won many prizes and trophies at music festivals and comptitions around the country.

She went on to study piano and flute at the Royal Academy of Music where she gained her Performers' Diploma.

Linda joined the Lydian Singers in 2010 as our accompanist and thoroughly enjoys playing the wide-ranging repertoire of both classical and modern songs that the choir sings!

In addition, she has also, for several years, regularly played keyboard in concerts with the Farnborough Concert Orchestra which she finds great fun!

The Treasurer

Lella joined the choir over 20 years ago when the musical theatre group she sang with folded and she has been on the committee for about 4 years. She particularly enjoys the variety of music that the Lydian sing. She has been on several tours abroad with the choir and found that a great experience. Lella keeps busy helping out with the family, volunteering with the Red Cross, walking and learning to play the ukulele!

The Membership & Social Secretary

Liz joined the choir in 2008 and loves the variety of music that we sing. Her favourite piece is “Fields of Gold” which is also very popular with our audiences. She appreciates the excellent standard of singing that we achieve. As well as singing, Liz is also able to play the piano and plays the keyboard for services at her local church.
